Strong Alumni Support

Geno (BA’54, LLD’84) and Joan (BA’55) Francolini have made a lasting impression on many students at Western.

The dynamic duo has been donating to Western for 38 years and since the late 1990s they have supported more than 40 students through student awards held at Foundation Western.

“We are financially capable of doing it,” says Geno. “I came from a family with no money, so I like to see smart and needy youngsters get a little help.”

Through their generous giving, the Francolini’s have established five student awards. These awards help students in the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Engineering, the Richard Ivey School of Business and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

With tuition at approximately $4,300 a year for most undergraduate programs, Western has more than 35 per cent of its students applying for financial assistance each year.

The Francolini’s realize Western’s more than 250,000 alumni play a key role in helping students of today and tomorrow.

“Western was a very significant part of my maturing and growing up – a good part of what I am today is because of my years at Western,” says Joan. “I want Western and the students to prosper – I think it’s a great place and it’s important we support it.”
